Lansing, Mich. - Following a 12-month tour in Kuwait, 51 Soldiers from theHeadquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 107th Quartermaster Battalion,Michigan Army National Guard, will return home. They are expected to arriveat 6 p.m. on Saturday. A homecoming ceremony is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Jackson Readiness Center, 4850 Cooper Road, Jackson, Mich. 49201.

The Soldiers mobilized to Camp Shelby, Miss., in May 2006 for in-processing and mission specific training. They arrived in Kuwait in August and were assigned to Camp Navistar. The Soldiers were assigned as the command cell for operations at Camp Navistar and served in the convoy support center which provided life support activities (food, fuel, arms, and maintenance) for more than 1,000 Soldiers, Sailors, civilian contractors, and coalition forces.
Camp Navistar provided logistical and operational support such as
intelligence; administrative assistance; and morale, support and welfare service in support of the war effort. The camp supplied supplies for U.S. and Coalition forces engaged in the Global War on Terrorism. The 107th Quartermaster Battalion operated Camp Navistar from August 2006 until May 2007, when the camp relocated to a new location.

Today, Michigan National Guard Soldiers and Airmen are deployed across the globe to Iraq, Kuwait, Afghanistan, Kosovo, United Arab Emirates, and the New Mexico and Arizona borders. Since Sept. 11, 2001, more than 85 percent of the Michigan Guard has deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom; however, as Michigan troops serve the nation, more than 80 percent of the Michigan Guard remain available and ready to respond to a state emergency including a terrorist event.
