Michigan National Guard Soldier from Holly, Mich., dies of health related injury while serving in Iraq

LANSING, MI -- Sgt. Thomas G. Wright, 38, of Holly, Mich., died May 14 enroute to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Landstuhl, Germany, from a non-combat related illness while serving at Balad, Iraq. Wright was assigned to the 46th Military Police Company, 210th Military Police Battalion, Kingsford, Mich.


Wright enlisted in the Michigan National Guard in March 2000. He deployed with the 144th Military Police Company to Washington D.C., from March 2002 to Feb 2003 in support of Operation Noble Eagle. He answered the call to service again in support of Hurricane Katrina relief from August 2005 to October 2005. His final service to his country began in July 2006 when he was called to active duty with the 46th Military Police Company based in Kingsford, Mich., and deployed to Iraq in October 2006 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.


Wright was a 1987 graduate of Rochester Adams High School in Rochester, Mich. He is survived by his wife Kate, daughter, Alexis, 5, his parents, Gary and Carol Wright who live in Florida, and a younger brother, Paul, of Holly.


Sgt. Wright was a devoted husband and father. He was also passionate about his military service to his country. He will be greatly missed.


Visitation will be at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint, Mich., on Tuesday, May 22, from 3:30 to 8 p.m.; Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The funeral will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Central Church of the Nazarene, located at 1261 W. Bristol Rd., Flint. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to LaSalle Bank, Alexis Wright; college fund.
