Lansing - The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality and the Department of the Army will each recognize the Michigan National Guard, tomorrow, for its environmental stewardship at Fort Custer, Augusta, Mich.
Fort Custer will become a Michigan Neighborhood Environmental Partner as part of a competitive environmental initiative sponsored by DEQ that recognizes businesses who work with their neighbors to improve environmental awareness and quality of life.
The Department of the Army will recognize Fort Custer for its dedication to environmental stewardship while sustaining the Army's mission.
"We are committed to good environmental stewardship and the long-term sustainability of our facilities," said Maj. Gen. Thomas G. Cutler, the adjutant general, Michigan National Guard. "We can't send our Soldiers into harm's way without training them as they need to fight, but we don't need to sacrifice the environment to provide that training. We will continue to use innovation, dedication and hard work to balance our readiness with environmental responsibility."
