Michigan History magazine invites individuals, groups and businesses to become a "Michigan history hero" by giving a subscription to Michigan History for Kids magazine to a classroom in the school of the donor's choice.

Sponsoring a one-year classroom subscription – 30 copies each of four issues – costs $225 and provides:

• material that makes children want to read, with well-written, meaningful, fun texts and colorful photos and illustrations that grab kids' attention;
   
• something each child can take home and call his or her own;
   
• knowledge that expands children's horizons and builds loyalty to our state; and
   
• ideas for classroom activities that enhance the learning experience.

"This is a great opportunity to help our state's children read and learn and to promote a lifelong allegiance and commitment to Michigan's heritage," said Pat Clark, director of the Michigan Historical Center Foundation.

Michigan History for Kids magazine has proven to be a valuable resource in teaching both history and literacy skills, having won a 2005 Parents' Choice Recommended Award, a 2006 Parents' Choice Approved Award and received countless accolades from parents, students and teachers.

Less than two percent of schools are able to provide Michigan History for Kids to their students. According to an August 2005 survey of 7,000 Michigan teachers, 96 percent of schools that don't subscribe say it is due to lack of funds.
