Focus on Our Magnets

Did you enjoy the little surprise we included with the last issue of Focus 23? The magnets we sent our patrons feature our address and phone number. We can produce a clear Braille overlay that will fit the magnet for those patrons who request one. Call your reader advisor at 1-800-992-9012 to learn more information about the magnet overlay. If you did not receive a magnet and would like one, please call your reader advisor.

Focus on Serving You Better

As 1999 begins, here are a few ways that you can help us serve you better when you call.

  1. Please identify yourself by name.
  2. If you are calling for a friend, relative or student, please give the name of the person receiving the service.
  3. If you are calling for a school, nursing home, or other institution, please give us the institution's name.
  4. If you have a request list, please provide the book numbers (if possible).
  5. If you have moved, please call the library to let us know both your new address and new phone number, if applicable.

Focus on Request Lists

Did you know we are able to store large lists of your book requests on our computer system? Our computers will hold a running list of up to 1,000 books for you. A couple of options for adding books to that request list include: 1) using the order form in the back of Talking Book Topics or other catalogs, or 2) calling us with a list of books you want to receive.

Please note: the computer system looks for and sends the oldest books from your request list first. You may want to call your reader advisor to update your list by having some of your older requests removed or if you have additional questions.

Focus on Changes in the Magazine Program

The National Library Service (NLS) is still transferring their magazine offerings from flexible disc to cassette. Individuals who currently subscribe to these magazines will automatically receive the new cassette version. If you have not subscribed to the following magazines but are interested in subscribing, please contact your reader advisor at 1-800-992-9012.

  • Civilization (monthly)
  • Computer Life (monthly)
  • Consumers Report (monthly)
