Several of the Library of Michigan's collections contain local history resources. Please consult ANSWER, the Library's online catalog system, when searching for specific titles.

Keyword and subject searches will help you locate local history resources on ANSWER. Subject searches must use Library of Congress-assigned subject headings. The Library Congress Subject Headings index is available at the Reference Desk. To search for local history information by subject, enter the place name followed by the sub-heading "history" or "history local." Capitalization is not necessary when searching ANSWER. Clicking on the links in this publication will take you directly to the ANSWER search or the ANSWER record for that item. For example:

To search by keywords, enter any words that apply towards the topic you are researching. For example:

The Genealogy and Local History series and the County and Regional Histories series are two notable microfilmed resources that contain a large number of county and local histories. The Genealogy and Local History series is a microfiche set of family, county and local histories from all states. The County and Regional Histories microfilm series covers California, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Printed indexes for each state are housed at the Genealogy Desk. Individual titles are listed on ANSWER or in indexes available at the Genealogy Desk.
