• Digitization for Preservation and Access (DPA) Grants The Digitization for Preservation and Access grant program was a statewide effort to digitize valuable and significant local and state-related information held in Michigan libraries and make such resources easily available via the Michigan eLibrary (MeL) . It was funded by a FY 2005 allocation to the Library of Michigan from the Michigan Legislature. Ten projects were granted funding. Check here for the final reports. | • LSTA Grant awards for Michigan Libraries The Library of Michigan distributes federal funds received under the Museum and Library Services Act of 2003, incorporating the Library Services and Technology Act of 1996 (LSTA), to support statewide initiatives and competitive grant programs. Through the legislation, the Institute for Museum and Library Services, an independent federal agency, provides grants to State Library Administrative Agencies to improve and support library, museum and information services. | • Library of Michigan Foundation Awards and Grant Programs State Librarian's Excellence Award, Ernie and Tram Program | • Michigan Center for the Book Literary Grants The Center's grant program provides a limited number of small grants for literary events in public libraries, schools or non-profits. | • Universal Service Fund (E-rate) The universal service support program for K-12 schools and libraries is often called the E-rate or Education Rate. | • Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation PAC HUG Program The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has announced the Public Access Computer Hardware Upgrade Grant Program. Michigan is one of the early states that participated in the Foundation's U.S. Statewide Partnership program six years ago, in which public libraries received public access computers that are not able to be upgraded and cannot be maintained well because of the limited technical assistance available. This new one-time upgrade grant program was designed to help libraries serving disadvantaged communities replace and upgrade public access computers, including hardware and software, to better meet the needs of their communities. |
