Application Submissions

Applications must fully detail the project type, the historic context or theme being addressed and the scope of the proposed project work.

Application information is available in the early summer in the grant manuals; applications are due December 1.

All grant applications for a fiscal year are competitively scored by Michigan Department of History, Arts and Libraries staff with experience in grants management, architectural history, archaeology, historic architecture and historic preservation. Final selection is based on administrative capability, geographic location, size and the specific priorities established for each project type.

Historic Preservation grants are awarded by means of a legally executed contract. Work done prior to the execution of a contract is not allowable.
