The AccessMichigan Steering Committee announces the availability of the AccessMichigan Web site. Librarians and residents from across Michigan now have access to the latest information about the AccessMichigan Project. From minutes of committee meetings to updates about the projects to links to information providers, the AccessMichigan Web site is the authoritative source for information about the project.
"AccessMichigan has been a shot in the arm for Michigan libraries," State Librarian George Needham said. "Many libraries are now able to offer their patrons access to information formerly unavailable to them. This is high-quality, easily accessible information."
In addition to reading about the AccessMichigan project, librarians will have the option of subscribing to the AccessMichigan electronic mailing list, sending e-mail messages to any of the Steering Committee members or providing private feedback to the Steering Committee. "The AccessMichigan Web site will really help Michigan librarians track developments in the project and communicate with other librarians about how they are using the databases," said Leslie Burke, AccessMichigan Communications Committee chairperson.
The AccessMichigan project makes available a wide variety of databases on current events, education, psychology, business and many other subjects. All that is required is for a library to have an Internet connection and a World Wide Web browser. All databases are offered to libraries free of charge through a Library Services and Technology Grant from the Library of Michigan. The AccessMichigan Steering Committee directs development of the project.
