General Retention Schedules list records/records series that are common to most offices in state government. General Schedules receive the same review and approval as agency-specific retention schedules. All public records that are not listed on a General Schedule must be inventoried on agency-specific schedules.
The following is a list of the General Schedules that have been issued by the State of Michigan. Links are provided to electronic versions of some of the General Schedules. The others may be obtained from the Records Management Services at (517) 335-9132.
General Schedule #1--NonRecords. Approved December 15, 1998. This Retention and Disposal Schedule covers materials classified as "non-records."
General Schedule #2--Accounting Records. Approved January 18, 1983. Applies to records created prior to MAIN.
General Schedule #4--Employee Personnel File - Active Employees. Approved March 5, 1996.
General Schedule #5--Administrative Records. Approved January 17, 2006. This Retention and Disposal Schedule covers General Administrative Records common to most offices in state government.
General Schedule #6--Accounting and Purchasing Records. Approved March 20, 2001. This Retention and Disposal Schedule covers accounting and purchasing records common to all state agencies.
General Schedule #7--Human Resource Records. Approved December 2, 2003. This Retention and Disposal Schedule covers human resources records common to all state agencies.
