Library Services and Technology Act - LSTA
Introduction to LSTA - www.michigan.gov/lsta
The Library of Michigan distributes federal funds received under the Museum and Library Services Act of 2003, incorporating the Library Services and Technology Act of 1996 (LSTA), to support statewide initiatives and competitive grant programs.
Through the legislation, the Institute for Museum and Library Services, an independent federal agency, provides grants to State Library Administrative Agencies to improve and support library, museum and information services. LSTA outlines two broad priorities for funding:
  1. to encourage activities that use technology for information sharing among libraries and between libraries and other community agencies;
  2. to support programs that make library resources more accessible to urban and rural localities, low-income residents, and others having difficulty using library services.

LSTA 2009

• What's New for the LSTA Program
The Library of Michigan would like announce that Modeling the Future grants will not be offered for FY 2010. The Modeling the Future program is a new program, with a focus on innovation and providing project guides for libraries. As part of this, we would like to have a major portion of the 2009 Modeling the Future grants complete before updating and offering the program anew for additional projects. This additional time will help us assure the success of future projects. Decisions about the availability of grants for FY 2011 will be announced in the spring of 2010.

The Library Services & Techology Act Michigan Report for 2008 is complete. You may also order a printed copy.
Three libraries have been awarded grants under the Modeling the Future grant program for FY 2009. Congratulations to Riverview Public Library, Peter White Public Library and Superiorland Library Cooperative. The press release describes the grants in more detail.
If you have questions regarding LSTA in Michigan, please contact Karren Reish at reishk@michigan.gov or (517) 241-0021.
