The Archives of Michigan contains primary material on Michigan's wars - from territorial days to World War II and beyond. Sources include records of the Michigan Executive Office and Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, as well as county and municipal government records and private papers. Genealogists, scholars, military history buffs and casual researchers can all discover useful information.

Abrams Foundation Grant Project

Thanks to the support of the Talbert and Leota Abrams Foundation, the Archives of Michigan can make Michigan military information more accessible than ever before. The Foundation has awarded the Archives a $33,000 grant. With this funding, the Archives has created and uploaded database name indexes to the web. These have greatly improved access to military collections of genealogical value.

A list of Archives of Michigan database resources appears below. All these were made possible by support of the Talbert and Leota Abrams Foundation.

The Foundation also funded the Civil War graves database, a project completed by a partnership of the Archives of Michigan and the Michigan Department, Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War.
