Michigan Historical Museum, Lansing
Now in its ninth season, Summer Sizzles day camp brings Michigan history to life for children aged 6 through 12. Campers get an enjoyable summer experience and a unique perspective on the past as they participate in crafts, discussions, activities and tours of our world-class facility.
Programs are designed by members of the award-winning Michigan Historical Museum education staff. Class size is limited to ensure the best experience for all campers.
For campers ages 9 through 12
Summer Sizzles
Fee: $60/week
Summer Sizzles is a weeklong day camp for children ages 9 through 12. Each of the five half-day sessions during the week focuses on a different theme in Michigan's past. This year, campers will:
*celebrate the 250th anniversary of the French and Indian War and understand its importance to Michigan.
*examine Michigan's involvement in the Civil War.
*discover their musical talents and understand the importance of music in the lives of Michiganians .
*learn cartooning and create cells detailing an event in Michigan history.
*become a newspaper reporter and write an account of events featured in one of the Michigan Historical Museum galleries.
The Michigan Historical Museum offers the Summer Sizzles day camp in morning or afternoon sessions throughout the summer. There is sure to be a session that fits in with parents' busy schedules.

Genealogy Sprouts
Fee: $15/half-day session
Genealogy Sprouts is a half-day camp for children ages 9 through 12. Offered in cooperation with the Library of Michigan, Gene Sprouts shows campers how to explore their family history through fun activities.
Genealogy Sprouts is offered twice during the summer:

1 to 4 p.m.
Stories of the Civil War
Fee: $25/one-day session
Popular presenter and Civil War reenactor Jim Haywood returns for his fifth season of summer camp at the Michigan Historical Museum to share tales of Abraham Lincoln, the roles of women in the Civil War, the latest Civil War ghost stories and his personal experiences as a reenactor.

Archaeology in Michigan
Fee: $25/one-day session
Join Don Simons from the Saginaw Chapter of the Michigan Archaeological Society and Bob Love of the Michigan Flintknappers as Don explains how artifacts are discovered and researched and Bob demonstrates how Native Americans crafted stone tools. Learn the important history of Michigan's first people in this interesting hands-on session.

For campers ages 6 through 8
New this year, the Michigan Historical Museum is pleased to offer day camps for younger children to get acquainted with Michigan's past.
Small Fry Summer Sizzles
Fee: $36/three-day session
In Small Fry Summer Sizzles, children ages 6 through 8 learn about people who lived in Michigan 100 years ago. Campers will enjoy old-time toys and games, discover how children learned to do farm chores, find out about blacksmiths and attend the one-room school.

When day camp has become a fond memory, kids are invited to continue exploring Michigan's past as part of the Future Historians. The group meets during the school year at the Michigan Historical Museum.
