Youth Photo Contest Exhibit -- May 17-May 23, 2008
Part of the Michigan Week festivities, this exhibit features the winners of the Michigan Week Youth Photo Contest, which invited young people to photograph their favorite historical site.
This Michigan Week exhibit opening is May 17 at 10 a.m. in the Michigan Library and Historical Center's rotunda.

May 18 / 08The Original Blessing of the Bikes
Held on the third Sunday of May, the Blessing of the Bikes is an annual gathering of motor cycle riders. The event began at St. Ann Catholic Church in 1972 in Baldwin, Michigan involving several bikers and now attracts thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts.

The public is invited to attend this informal Memorial Day observance which pays tribute to the soldiers who served at Fort Mackinac. Join our soldiers as they assemble at 8:30 a.m. at the fort, march to the post cemetery, perform a short ceremony and salute, and return to the fort. Free.

The Great Michigan Read exhibit featuring Hemingway and Nick Adams
"Up North with the Hemingways," traveling exhibit companion to The Great Michigan Read, will tour Michigan through July 7, 2008. The exhibit will visit 28 communities in nearly every corner of the state. Check the Web site for a location near you.
Exhibits made possible by support from Michigan Humanities Council, Clarke Historical Library at Central Michigan University, Michigan Hemingway Society, and Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs.

Celebrating 50 Years of Historical Preservation and Museum Programs, May 5-October 12, 2008
Visited by nearly 20 million guests since 1958, Mackinac State Histoic Parks celebrates its 50th anniversary year by offering many exciting opportunities and events, including the June 15 celebration in Fort Mackinac, the very day the fort opened 50 years ago and the same day as the famed Mackinac Island lilac festival grand parade. Music, cake, engaging speeches and special events await your family at this anniversary celebration within the fort. In addition, the anniversary will also be celebrated by way of the June 17 Historic Mill Creek Discovery Park grand opening event and the June 21 Mackinac Associates G. Mennen Williams celebration.

The Picture Man: Lansing through the Lens of R. C. Leavenworth
For over a century, Leavenworth Photography has shot hundreds of thousands of images that tell the story of industry, business, and social life in Michigan's capital city.
"The Picture Man" runs May 29 to September 30 in the temporary exhibit area on the first floor of the Michigan Historical Center, Lansing. Admission is free.
