It's a weekend full of family fun at the Michigan Historical Museum Oct. 27 and 28, with Michigan Magic Day - a chance to see a thrilling performance by skilled local magicians and learn how to do your own magic tricks at home - followed by a day of Halloween treats and tales, creepy crafts and friendly frights as the museum presents Haunted History: A Spooky Walk Through Time.

In celebration of National Magic Month, observed in October to honor the death of world-famous magician Harry Houdini in Detroit on Oct. 31, 1926, the Michigan Historical Museum offers a magic-bag of activities for the whole family on Saturday, Oct. 27. Michigan Magic Day will feature:

Magicians Guild of Lansing Magic Show
2 to 3:30 p.m.
Tickets are $5 per person.

Spend an afternoon experiencing the thrill of magic tricks performed by three skilled magicians from the Lansing Magicians Guild.
Discover and Create Magic - Workshops for Children and Adults
10 to 11 a.m. or 12 to 1 p.m.
Cost to attend the Children's Magic Workshop is $5 per child and the Adult Magic Workshops is $7.50 per person

Children, ages 8 to 12, and adults can learn from the magic masters as members of the Magicians Guild of Lansing teach them simple tricks to amaze friends and family! Using ordinary household items, the magicians will demonstrate some easy-to-learn tricks that kids can perform at home.

Seating is limited for the Michigan Magic Day events. Tickets are available at the Michigan Historical Museum Store and may be purchased in advance or on the day of the event until seating is sold out. For more information, please contact Jo Anne Arasim at (517) 373-1905 or arasimj@michigan.gov.

Michigan Magic Day is sponsored by the Michigan Historical Museum Docent Guild and the Magicians Guild of Lansing, Ring 54. Proceeds from ticket sales fund future public programs at the Michigan Historical Museum.

Haunted History: A Spooky Walk Through Time, from 1 to 5 p.m. on Oct. 28, gives families the chance to "trick or treat" through Michigan's history. Visitors can come in costume to enjoy spooky tales, old-fashioned Halloween games and creepy crafts. They will meet characters from Michigan's past, sample traditional treats and receive a Halloween goodie bag.

Special guests will include strolling magicians from the Magicians Guild of Lansing between 1 and 3 p.m.; Chris Harper of the Magicians Guild of Lansing, who will teach visitors about Halloween history; and Nicole Bray of the West Michigan Ghost Hunters, who will discuss the ins and outs of ghost hunting.

Tickets for Haunted History are $5 per person (children 3 years or younger are free) and may be purchased at the Michigan Historical Museum Store in advance or on the day of the event.
