Last week, I traveled around the state to talk with residents about my Michigan First Health Care Plan. The people I met are facing real challenges as they seek out affordable health care.
In Saginaw, I met a woman who is a home health care worker with no health care insurance. It is a tragic irony that this selfless woman continues to help others each day with their health care needs, while she has no relief from the escalating costs of health care for herself. I was pleased to tell her that this year’s state budget includes a pay raise for home health care workers. It is stories like hers that keep me energized, reinforcing my commitment to taking the next step for the Michigan First Health Care Plan.
In Detroit, I visited the St. Frances Cabrini Clinic, a health care center that tends to the medical needs of the uninsured in southwest Detroit. This is a wonderful service for many Detroit residents, but one we shouldn’t need. With the Michigan First Health Care Plan, we can make insurance an affordable, accessible reality for every citizen.
In Grand Rapids, I met with citizens who are already putting the MiRx card to good use! The MiRx card has helped make prescription drugs more affordable for more than 37,000 families, but we must take the next step and make the MiRx card more accessible to every citizen in Michigan who needs it.
Hearing the stories of these residents solidifies my promise to move forward with the Michigan First Health Care Plan. Providing health care to all Michiganians is just one part my Jobs Today, Jobs Tomorrow plan, the most aggressive and comprehensive plan in the nation to grow jobs in Michigan and grow Michigan’s economy. Ultimately, the Michigan First Health Care Plan will provide universal access to affordable health care. I continue to fight for one and all…
