I just wanted to drop everyone a quick note on this wild day….I am so excited to tell you that Google has chosen to grow in Ann Arbor, creating 1,000 new jobs for our Michigan workers.  Now when you Google the best state in the nation to do business, you’ll get Michigan at the top of your list!

The facility will be a sales and operations center for Google’s AdWords online advertising program.  This hi-tech research facility will be located in the University of Michigan’s back yard, giving our students the opportunity to learn from one the nation’s fastest growing companies and giving Google access to our top-notch university resources.

Google chose Michigan over several other potential locations because of our highly-skilled workforce.  And it couldn’t have come at a better time.  As I travel across the state each week, I have spoken with many students who want to grow their career in Michigan but aren’t sure the jobs will be available for them after they graduate.  But with a hot company like Google choosing to expand in Michigan, young people will be thinking twice before moving out of our great state.

This is just the beginning.  Google’s confidence in Michigan will no doubt inspire companies to invest in our state as well.  Soon everyone will know Michigan as the best state to grow high-tech, 21st century jobs.  Whether you are a business building car engines or search engines, Michigan is where you want to be!
