EXECUTIVE DIRECTIVE No. 2006-1

TO: Department Directors and Autonomous Agency Heads
FROM: Governor Jennifer M. Granholm
DATE: March 1, 2006
SUBJECT: Rescission of Executive Directive 2005-5

Last year I issued Executive Directive 2005-5, which imposed a temporary moratorium on bottled water permits and approvals. The Directive was intended to afford the Michigan Legislature an opportunity to debate and enact a comprehensive water withdrawal law that addressed the diversion of Great Lakes water from Michigan. In response, the Legislature acted. Yesterday I was pleased to sign into law Public Acts 34 to 37 of 2006. These new laws will protect Michigan waters from large-scale diversions and withdrawals and provide an important statutory framework for comprehensive water management in Michigan. As a result, I direct the following:

1. Executive Directive 2005-5 is rescinded.

This Directive is effective immediately.
