Speed Limits

Who do I contact with concerns about speed limits?

The Michigan Department of Transportation is committed to providing transportation systems that promote a high quality of life for Michigan citizens. If you have concerns about speed limits on a state truckline you can contact the Michigan Department of Transportation through the information below (State truckline roads are often marked with “M”, “US”, or “I”).

State Transportation Building
P.O. Box 30050
Lansing, MI 48909
Phone: (517) 373-2090

Who determines speed limits?

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and the Michigan State Police work together to establish speed limits along all state trucklines. A speed study is conducted and data is analyzed before setting a speed limit. If you would like further detailed information about this process please visit the Office of Highway Safety Planning’s website.
