Wrongful Convictions

What can the governor do for me if I have been wrongfully convicted or accused of a crime?

Due to the separation of powers, the Governor does not have the authority to set aside wrongful convictions. This responsibility falls under the jurisdiction of the Court of the State of Michigan. If you have firm proof that wrongdoings occurred during prosecution, you should present that proof to the court for its review and consideration. If, at this time, you do not have legal counsel to represent you it is advised that you contact the Michigan State Bar’s attorney referral service by calling 1-800-968-0738. Please visit the Set Aside Conviction Order website to fill out this form.
