Whereas, Operation Reach Back Day helps to make a difference in the lives of young African American males and their families through literacy; and,
Whereas, Working to prevent destructive behavior, Operation Reach Back Day creates a positive atmosphere through city-wide forums on self-help and awareness, interdisciplinary fellowship, teenage preventive counseling and family education; and,
Whereas, Operation Reach Back Day promotes professional and spiritual development in the African American community by providing scholarships and role models to struggling youth; and,
Whereas, The Motor City Operation Reach Back Chapter is an educational, nonprofit organization of professionals of African descent within the Seventh-day Adventist Church committed to strengthening the African American community by example and community involvement;
Now, Therefore, be it Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, governor of the state of Michigan, do hereby proclaim March 28, 2009, Operation Reach Back Day in Michigan. I encourage citizens to reach out to the youth of our state as a positive influence to encourage positive behavior and to create a lasting impression.
