GI Nursing Day

Whereas, The purpose of GI Nursing Day is to promote public awareness of gastroenterology, or GI, health issues and health-care systems, as well as to promote participation in GI wellness programs;

Whereas, GI nurses and associates are committed to providing optimal healthcare to patients with gastrointestinal diseases who are undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures; and,

Whereas, GI nurses and associates practice in physician offices, inpatient and outpatient endoscopy departments, ambulatory endoscopy centers, and inpatient hospital units; and,

Whereas, The roles that GI nurses perform depend on education, licensure and experience, and range from equipment and cleaning to performing screening procedures and case management; and,

Whereas, GI nurses and associates have demonstrated their professionalism and compassion for their patients and continually strive to upgrade standards of practice and to improve services;

Now, Therefore, be it Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, governor of the state of Michigan, do hereby proclaim March 25, 2009, as GI Nursing Day in Michigan and encourage all citizens to recognize the unity, dedication and determination found within this professional nursing organization.
