Whereas, As a member of the United States House of Representatives, John Dingell has worked hard with much diligence and sacrifice to strengthened our nation; and,
Whereas, John Dingell's unprecedented tenure of leadership has had a profound impact in such fundamental policy areas as environmental protection, energy, health care, and commerce; and,
Whereas, John Dingell has been an essential part of the United States House of Representatives by effectively garnering support among his colleagues for vitally important legislation; and,
Whereas, John Dingell has authored and co-authored some of the nation's most important environmental and conservation laws, including landmark legislation dealing with safe drinking water, hazardous waste handling, lead exposure reduction, and energy conservation; and,
Whereas, This tenacious leader has long been the people's champion by reforming health care and working toward legislation that gives patients the rights they deserve; and,
Whereas, During these tremulous times, John Dingell brings a breadth of knowledge that is unsurpassed by taking on the challenge to save jobs and to diversify our economy;
Now, Therefore, be it Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, governor of the state of Michigan, do hereby proclaim February 11, 2009, John Dingell Day in Michigan. May he continue to serve with great wisdom and commitment to moving this state into the future.
