Whereas, The United States historically has been a melting pot where people of all nationalities, religious beliefs and cultures come together as one; and,
Whereas, Establishing peace among those who are diverse can be accomplished by recognizing our similarities and realizing that we are not so different; and,
Whereas, Michigan is proud to be the home of many different nationalities and finds strength in its citizens who have welcomed this diversity; and,
Whereas, The first day of a new year typically denotes hopeful expectations and positive resolve in the hearts and minds of our citizens; and,
Whereas, The School of Metaphysics, a worldwide organization, was founded to encourage peace and does so through promoting understanding and goodwill toward others;
Now, Therefore, be it Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, governor of the state of Michigan, do hereby proclaim an Hour of Peace over the midnight hour on December 31, 2008-January 1, 2009 in Michigan. May we, as a state, stand united with a common purpose to commit ourselves in thought and action to promote peace in the dawning of the new year.
