Whereas , Last year, 70.5 million pounds of food were collected, the third consecutive year this effort exceeded 70 million pounds; and,

Whereas , Since 1993, the National Association of Letter Carriers has collected and delivered more than three-quarters of a billion pounds of food - 765.5 million pounds - to help hungry families; and,

Whereas , The NALC encourages postal patrons to participate by leaving non-perishable donations, such as canned foods, cereals, pasta and rice by their mailbox on May 10, 2008; and,

Whereas , All donations will be delivered to food banks, pantries, and shelters that serve the area where the food is collected; and now therefore be it,

Resolved , That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim May 10, 2008, as National Association of Letter Carriers National Food Drive Day.
