Whereas, Members of the United States Military have brought great honor to our nation and have given true meaning to the highest standard of patriotism and service; and,
Whereas, We must remember and acknowledge the debt we owe to these men and women who have loyally served our nation in war and peace and we must never take for granted their contributions and sacrifices; and,
Whereas, We know of the danger and threat to our peace and liberty and we recognize the many, here and abroad, who now stand watch, as they execute the difficult missions required to preserve, restore, and build democracy throughout the world; and,
Whereas, Current events have given us a renewed appreciation for the members of the United States military, and we thank those who are currently serving in the Persian Gulf and around the world in our country's fight against terrorism; and,
Whereas, It is important to recognize those who have returned home bearing the scars of battle, those who remain missing in action, and especially those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom by giving their lives for our country; and now therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim March 26, 2007, as Support Our Troops Day.
