Sunshine Week

Whereas, The citizens of Michigan have the right to know how public officials represent them and spend their tax dollars; and,

Whereas, Under the Freedom of Information Act, government agencies must provide the public with access to government information, unless the information falls under certain exemptions; and,

Whereas, The democratic process is built upon the rights of citizens to question and hold their elected officials accountable on their actions and motives; and now therefore be it,

Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan to hereby proclaim the week of March 11, 2007, as Sunshine Week in Michigan.
