Whereas, Hemophilia, von Willebrand Disease, and other bleeding disorders are genetic diseases in which blood does not clot properly because specific clotting factors are missing or defective; and,
Whereas, These genetic diseases are incurable and can only be effectively treated through intravenous administration of replacement clotting factor derived from human blood and produced through pharmaceutical processes; and,
Whereas, The replacement clotting factor required fro such treatment is extremely costly and beyond the financial means of nearly all individuals; and,
Whereas, Research continues towards a cure for Hemophilia, von Willebrand Disease, and other bleeding disorders; and now therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim June 2006, as Hemophilia and Other Bleeding Disorders Month in Michigan.
