Whereas, The United States Coast Guard Cutter ACACIA is to be decommissioned this seventh day of June, 2006; and,
Whereas, The Coast Guard Cutter ACACIA served this nation for 62 years, conducting Coast Guard missions in the Great Lakes, the Gulf of Maine, and the Caribbean; and,
Whereas, Coast Guard Cutter ACACIA has helped ensure the safety of the Michigan people by maintaining Aids to Navigation, icebreaking frozen waters, protecting the Great Lakes’ pristine environment, sailing into severe weather to assist distressed vessels, and conducting law enforcement operations; and,
Whereas, The Coast Guard Cutter ACACIA has guarded the coast of Lakes Michigan and Huron for over 60 years and has become a part of Michigan history; and now therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim June 7, 2006, as Coast Guard Cutter ACACIA Day in Michigan. I encourage all citizens to recognize the many years of service the Coast Guard Cutter ACACIA has provided for the nation and the State of Michigan.
