Governor Pays Surprise Visit to Lab Staff at the Department of Community Health

October 25, 2005

Governor Granholm, in appreciation to lab employees for their service to the citizens of the state of Michigan, paid a surprise visit to the Department of Community Health’s Laboratory. Workers here were instrumental in testing hundreds of potential anthrax specimens in the days following September 11, 2001.

Lab staff continue to test unknown potential terrorist-created specimens on a weekly basis. In addition to these difficult cases, they conduct daily tests for outbreaks of West Nile Virus, influenza, tuberculosis, and other infectious diseases that pose a threat to the residents of Michigan.
