Martha Hanley is no stranger to the shake-ups that occur in State government. In her six years with the State, she’s worked for the Jobs Commission, the Department of Career Development and now DIT, all without significantly changing job duties!
Now, Martha is part of DIT Infrastructure Services’ Distributed Processing Operations. She is a network analyst who supports DLEG servers. Martha is responsible for daily maintenance, creating and deleting accounts, and fixing outages. She also performs daily backups, checks for patches to protect from viruses and hackers, and lately, she has been building new servers. She also handles some Remedy tickets, but can do most of that work right from her office in Lansing.
Martha says her favorite part about the job, right now, is building new servers. “It’s really interesting,” she says. She tests servers for migration and checks on the upgrades of equipment and operating systems. “We don’t want to lose anything in the transition,” Martha explained. Lately, this work on building new servers has taken her away from doing as many of the Remedy tickets as she used to.
Martha says nothing about her job is too challenging or frustrating – she’s just thankful to have a job! After some discussion, though, she decided that parking downtown Lansing is a frustration she could do without (many DIT employees can probably relate). Her parking lot is a long walk from her office! Fortunately, Martha has a generous husband who buys her a nearby parking spot in the winter so her walk is shorter during the cold and snowy months.
Away from work, Martha stays busy with a new six-month old grandson. She loves having him around saying, “he takes up a lot of my time.”
Martha was nominated for “A Day in the Life” by her manager, who says the Department is lucky to have her! Thanks Martha!
