Greetings.

Last night, I delivered the Governor’s “State of the State” address. Perhaps you attended, heard, or watched it, or read about it in the papers this morning. As you know, the speech contains sober news about the size of the budget deficit. But, it also reflects my profound optimism about Michigan’s spirit and our chances for growth and revival. A big part of why I am hopeful is because I believe in you. I wanted you to know what I said last night, what I believe to be true about you, and what I will continue to impress upon our citizens. Here was my message:

Diversity gives birth to great creativity. An honored workforce brings forth dedication. Michigan state employees are Michigan’s unsung heroes – men and women who quietly toil to keep the wheels of government turning in good times and bad. Often, the people who know best how to meet a challenge are those who face it on the frontline. Our state employees are not part of the problem; they are the heart of the solution. We will aggressively seek their intelligence and input. And they have my deep thanks for giving more in these times of scarcity.
