October 17, 2005

LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today issued the following statement on the tentative agreement announced between the United Auto Workers (UAW) and General Motors (GM) Corporation.

“We are pleased that the UAW and GM have reached this tentative agreement, the product of hard work and difficult choices.  While it will require sacrifices, it is a necessary step to secure the long term future of the company and GM workers and retirees.

“Now that this tentative agreement has been reached, the Legislature needs to act on our economic plan which is designed to make Michigan more competitive for job providers, such as GM, Delphi and other manufacturers.”
