, The Constitution of the United States of America is the cornerstone of our nation, providing the framework for the United States government, and guaranteeing freedom and equality for all Americans; and,

, September 17, 2008, marks the 221st anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of theUnited States of America by the Constitutional Convention; and,
Whereas
, This anniversary provides an opportunity for all Americans to reflect on the rights and privileges of citizenship incorporated within its framework, and to learn about our nation's founding fathers; and,
Whereas
, Public Law 915 guarantees the annual issuance of a proclamation by the president of the United States designating September 17-23 as Constitution Week, and it is fitting to accord official state recognition to this important anniversary; and,
Whereas
, The observation of Constitution Week inspires us to rededicate ourselves to the support and defense of our Constitution and to a more active and involved citizenship; and now therefore be it,
Resolved
, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of September 17-23, 2008, as Constitution Week 2008, and I encourage all citizens to participate in community activities commemorating this special occasion.
