Army Reserve Day

Whereas, The Army Reserve was established on April 23, 1908, when Congress approved the organization of the Reserve medical Corp, evolving into the Army Reserve of today, serving in every conflict for the past 100 years; and,

Whereas, On this occasion, we recognize our Michigan soldiers who have served the United States with courage and bravery since the nation's infancy; and,

Whereas, There are currently 17 Michigan Army Reserve units and more than 800 citizen-soldiers from our great state deployed alongside our active duty soldiers; and,

Whereas, Observing Army Reserve Day honors the proud legacy of our men and women in uniform who sacrifice comfort and wealth and leave family, friends and safety behind to defend the values we hold dear; and now therefore be it,

Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim April 23, 2008, as Army Reserve Day in Michigan.  I applaud the service and sacrifices of the distinguished Michigan citizens who have so proudly served in the United States Army Reserve.
