Whereas, The success and prosperity of this nation and the State of Michigan depends
on the quality of education our youth receive from elementary through high school;
and,
Whereas, Within an educational environment, the school principal is recognized
as the instructional leader and as the key factor in effective and productive
learning in the classroom; and,
Whereas, The principal’s leadership skills and abilities directly affect
the performance of teachers striving to achieve their goal of quality instruction
for every student; and,
Whereas, These professionals not only direct the activities within their school,
but also act as the liaison between the school and the community it serves,
ensuring that parents and taxpayers are aware of the school’s undertakings
and achievements; and,
Whereas, Principal’s Week is dedicated to recognizing the significant
contributions of Michigan school principals to their schools and to the education
of our youth; and therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of Michigan do hereby
proclaim the week of February 8, 2004, as Principal’s Week in Michigan,
and I encourage all citizens to support the efforts of school principals in
their communities.
