Whereas, In 1980 the American Society of Post Anesthesia Nurses (ASPAN) was born
through the need for education specific to perianesthesia care and has continued
to prosper since it’s inception with membership reaching over 10,000; and,
Whereas, Since the 1980’s, postanesthesia care of patients has vastly
improved with the use of accurate updated equipment and the increasing numbers
of hospitals using the ASPAN Standards of Perianesthesia Nursing Practice; and,
Whereas, There are over 300 members belonging to the Michigan Association of
PeriAnesthesia Nurses (MAPAN), promoting the mission of high standards in Perianesthesia
nursing, progressive educational opportunities, and an increase of community
and professional awareness of the specialty; and,
Whereas, The theme of this year’s celebration will be “Influencing
the Circle of Care” which will provide a platform to thank all PeriAnesthesia
nurses for a job well done and to increase the circle of PeriAnesthesia nurses
throughout the state; and now therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan,
do hereby proclaim the week of February 2, 2004, as PeriAnesthesia Nurse Awareness
Week in Michigan, and I urge all citizens to recognize the immeasurable service
PeriAnesthesia nurses provide to the citizens of Michigan.
