Whereas , The United States Amateur Ballroom Dancers Association (USABDA) is a nationwide organization catering to thousands of volunteers who love ballroom dancing and profit from the social and health benefits ballroom dancing has to offer; and,
Whereas , Dancing is a great body conditioner and form of aerobic exercise as it tones the body while increasing flexibility and balance; and,
Whereas , The art of ballroom dancing serves as a stress reliever, stimulates the mind, and increases self-confidence and pride; and,
Whereas , Ballroom dancing gives participants of all ages and abilities a wonderful opportunity to develop their talent, enjo social and recreational activities, and improve their health in a fun and fulfilling venue; and,
Whereas , There are USABDA chapters all over the United States including one in Kalamazoo; and,
Whereas , Local chapters of USABDA work to increase recognition of ballroom dancing as an art form, a lifetime recreational activity, and an Olympic sport; and now therefore be it,
Resolved , That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of September 18-28, 2008, as Ballroom Dance Week in Michigan.
