Whereas , Professional truck drivers have been recognized as among the safest drivers on our highways, and many have received awards for extraordinary acts of heroism and bravery for saving fellow motorists from injury or death; and,

Whereas , America's professional truck drivers are hard-working men and women who serve communities, schools, and businesses of the United States with dedication and pride; and,

Whereas , The week of August 24, 2008, has been designated as National Truck Driver Appreciation Week in honor of the more than three million men and women who professionally drive trucks, for their outstanding contributions to our nation's economic strength and viability; and now therefore be it,

Resolved , That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of August 24, 2008, as Truck Driver Appreciation Week in Michigan.
