Baton Twirling Week

Whereas , The baton twirling movement has affected the lives of American girls and boys, now with nearly one-half million active participants; and,

Whereas , Baton twirling has been instrumental in building the confidence and character of young people, and has provided guidance and training that also enhances the development of each athlete's character; and,


Whereas
, The art of baton twirling is one of the largest, nationwide youth movements for girls; and,

Whereas , Baton twirling plays an important part in children's hospitals as a unique and effective method of physical therapy; and,

Whereas , Champion twirlers from across the United States will gather at the University of Notre Dame from July 22-26, 2008, to conduct a colorful youth pageant called "America's Youth on Parade;" and now therefore be it,

Resolved , That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of July 20, 2008, as Baton Twirling Week in Michigan.
