Whereas , College Colors Day, which coincides with both back-to-school and the kick-off of intercollegiate athletics on college and university campuses in the state of Michigan, seeks to celebrate and promote the traditions and spirit that make the college experience great by encouraging fans, alumni, and students to wear apparel of their favorite college throughout the day of August 29, 2008; and,
Whereas , Dozens of colleges and universities are located in Michigan, providing educational opportunities to thousands of Michigan residents and non-residents; and,
Whereas , For more than 100 years, Michigan colleges and universities have been educating the citizens of Michigan and students from around the country; and,
Whereas , Intercollegiate athletics in the state of Michigan provide scholarship opportunities to great numbers of young men and women; and,
Whereas , College Colors Day promotes higher education in Michigan through increased public awareness; and celebrates the achievements of colleges and universities in our state, acknowledging their critical and fundamental importance to the state of Michigan; and now therefore be it,
Resolved , That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the state of Michigan, do hereby proclaim August 27, 2008, as College Colors Day.
