Older Michiganians Day 2008

Whereas

, Michigan has more than 1.8 million adults who are age 60 and older; and,
Whereas

, Older adults make significant contributions to our society as seasoned and active workers, volunteers, consumers, philanthropists, family members, and caregivers of their children, grandchildren, and people with disabilities; and,
Whereas

, We welcome the increasingly valuable contributions of Michigan's older adults to our economic, social, and cultural development; and,
Whereas

, We also recognize they are entitled to the highest possible quality of good health; and,
Whereas

, With advanced age, some individuals will have difficulty with daily living and will need personal assistance to support them and maintain their viability; and,
Whereas

, Individuals and communities are encouraged to collaborate and work together to strengthen services for older adults in ways that recognize the changing nature of their needs, and provide them with opportunities and options to make informed choices for their lives; and now therefore be it,
Resolved

, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim June 11, 2008, as Older Michiganians Day.
