Whereas, Lions Clubs of Michigan provide significant funding for public school programs, especially for extracurricular activities like athletics, music, and art; and,

Whereas, The Lions Clubs of Michigan fundraiser, designated as Lions of Michigan Candy Days, serves to benefit schools in Michigan; and,

Whereas, Proceeds from the weekend fundraiser will be used by Lions Clubs throughout the state for youth activities and services, community development, sight and hearing restoration, medical care and expenses, and emergency disaster relief; and,

Whereas, Each year, the 500 plus Lions Clubs in the State of Michigan provide hundreds of thousands of dollars to support their local communities; and now therefore be it,

Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim September 26-27, 2008, as Lions of Michigan Candy Days in Michigan.
