Great Outdoors Month

Whereas, In Michigan, we are fortunate to have been blessed with beautiful rivers, lakes, fields and forests that our citizens and visitors can enjoy all year round; and,

Whereas, Michigan is a vast natural resource that provides citizens and tourists alike the opportunity to fish, boat, camp, hike and enjoy numerous other outdoor activities; and,

Whereas, June marks the first month of the summer vacation and recreation season; and,

Whereas, Great Outdoors Month is a great opportunity for our citizens to explore the great outdoor activities Michigan has to offer but also to renew our commitment to conserving our air, water and land so that generations to come will have the opportunity to enjoy Michigan's outdoor splendor; and,

Whereas, Great Outdoors Month gives our children the opportunity to be reintroduced to nature and the fun adventures it holds; and now therefore be it,

Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim June 2008 as Great Outdoors Month in Michigan.
