Governor Granholm Appoints Seven to Michigan Board of Nursing

LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the appointments of seven individuals to the Michigan Board of Nursing.  The duties of the board include setting minimal standards of acceptable practices and assessing penalties for when those standards are not met.  The board is also responsible for the interpretation of license and registration requirements for both schools and individuals once the school or the individual has passed the designated exam created by the board.
 
Nina Bugbee, R.N., of Flushing, is president of Local Union 332, International Brotherhood of Teamsters.  Bugbee is appointed to represent registered nurses with bachelor’s degrees who are engaged in current practice or administration for a term expiring June 30, 2005.  She succeeds Theresa Niemi, R.N., who has resigned.

Margherita Clark, R.N., M.S.N., of St. Johns, is the nursing program director for Lansing Community College and per diem staff nurse in the Intensive Care Unit for Sparrow Health System.  Clark is appointed to represent registered nurses with master’s degrees who are engaged in nursing education in an associate degree nursing program for a term expiring June 30, 2007.  She succeeds Susan Meeker, R.N., M.S.N. whose term has expired.

Liza Gamel-Marrell, R.N., of Lansing, is a practicing nurse for an outpatient neurology clinic.  Marrell is appointed to represent registered nurses without bachelor’s degrees who are engaged in current practice or administration for a term expiring June 30, 2007. She succeeds Sandy Place, R.N. whose term has expired.

Deborah Heath, R.N., of Adrian, is the director of nursing for the Lenawee Medical Care Facility. Heath is appointed to represent registered nurses without bachelor’s degrees who are engaged in current practice or administration for a term expiring June 30, 2007.  She succeeds Gail Urness, R.N. whose term has expired.

Amy M. Perry, R.N., M.S.N., of Ann Arbor, is the director of nursing clinical information for the University of Michigan Medical Center.  Perry is appointed to represent registered nurses with master’s degrees who are engaged in nursing education in a bachelor’s of science nursing program for a term expiring June 30, 2007.  She succeeds Patricia Underwood, R.N., M.S.H., Ph.D. whose term has expired.

Linda Taft, R.N., of Clinton Township, is a nurse at St. John North Shores Hospital.  Taft is appointed to represent registered nurses without bachelor’s degrees who are engaged in current practice or administration for a term expiring June 30, 2007.  She succeeds Cynthia Phillips, R. N. whose term has expired.

Esther Lee Wyatt, of Detroit, is retired.  Wyatt is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring June 30, 2007.  She succeeds Dee White whose term has expired.
