Governor makes appointments, reappointments

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following recent appointments and reappointments to the Executive Committee and Corporation Board of the Michigan Early Childhood Investment Corporation (ECIC), the Michigan Municipal Bond Authority Board of Trustees and the Michigan State Waterways Commission:

Executive Committee and Corporation Board of the Michigan Early Childhood Investment Corporation

M. Elizabeth Bunn of Detroit, secretary-treasurer of the International Union- UAW, is appointed to the ECIC executive committee for a term expiring July 22, 2011.  She is also appointed to the ECIC board for a term expiring at the pleasure of the governor.  She succeeds Robert P. Kelch whose term has expired. 

Dan L. DeGrow of Port Huron, superintendent of St. Clair County Intermediate School District, is appointed to the ECIC executive committee for a term expiring July 22, 2009.  He is also appointed to the ECIC board for a term expiring at the pleasure of the governor.  He succeeds Michael P. Flanagan who has resigned.

Marianne Udow-Phillips of Ann Arbor, director of the Center for Healthcare Quality and Transformation, is appointed to the ECIC executive committee for a term expiring July 22, 2009.  She is also appointed to the ECIC board for a term expiring at the pleasure of the governor.  She succeeds Ismael Ahmed who is now the director of the Department of Human Services.

Susan K. Broman of Grand Rapids, executive director of Steelcase Foundation, an endowment unit of Steelcase, Inc., is reappointed to the ECIC executive committee for a term expiring July 22, 2011. 

Marvin H. McKinney, Ph.D. of Haslett, special consultant for Family Research Initiative at Michigan State University, is reappointed to the ECIC executive committee for a term expiring July 22, 2011.   

The Michigan Early Childhood Investment Corporation is charged with establishing standards and guidelines for early childhood development activities to be implemented throughout the state in partnership with local intermediate school districts.

These appointments and reappointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.

Michigan Municipal Bond Authority Board of Trustees

Richard A. Huebler of Allen Park, mayor of the city of Allen Park, is appointed to represent residents of the state for a term expiring January 1, 2008.  He succeeds Gary D. Hawks who has resigned.

Nancy L. Quarles of Southfield, former state representative, is reappointed to represent residents of this state for a term expiring January 1, 2010. 

The authority provides Michigan local units of government and schools an alternative source of financing for infrastructure projects and low cost access to the public finance market. 

These appointments are subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.

Michigan State Waterways Commission

Mr. Michael J. Bryanton of East Lansing, Ingham County clerk, is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring September 18, 2010.  He succeeds Todd A. Wyett whose term has expired.

Glen D. Bailey of Drummond Island, owner of Drummond Island Yacht Haven, is reappointed to represent persons residing north of townline 16 in the Upper Peninsula and individuals who own or operate a harbor or marina for a term expiring September 18, 2010. 

The Michigan State Waterways Commission is responsible for the acquisition, construction, and maintenance of recreational harbors, channels, docking and launching facilities, and administration of commercial docks in the Straits of Mackinac. 

These appointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
