LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following appointment and reappointments to the Certificate of Need Commission:
Thomas M. Smith of Saginaw, a Republican and regional manager of healthcare initiatives for the General Motors Corporation, is appointed to represent companies that are self-insured for health coverage for a term expiring April 9, 2010. He succeeds Roger G. Andrzejewski whose term has expired.
Edward B. Goldman of Ann Arbor, a Democrat and associate vice-president and deputy general counsel for the University of Michigan General Counsel Health System Legal Office, is reappointed to represent hospitals for a term expiring April 9, 2010.
Norma R. Hagenow of Grand Blanc, a Republican and president and CEO of Genesys Regional Medical Center, is reappointed to represent hospitals for a term expiring April 9, 2010.
The bipartisan Certificate of Need Commission reviews and determines the need for new institutional health services, facilities, or organizations being offered or developed in Michigan.
These appointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
