Governor Granholm Announces Appointments, Reappointments

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following recent appointments and reappointments:
 
Civil Rights Commission
 
Lisa P. Peeples-Hurst of St. Joseph, prevention specialist for the Berrien County Health Department, is reappointed to represent Democrats for a term expiring December 31, 2013.
 
J. Michael Zelley of Grand Blanc, president of The Disability Network, is reappointed to represent independents for a term expiring December 31, 2013.
 
The Civil Rights Commission, a bipartisan entity, investigates alleged discrimination against any person because of religion, race, color, national origin, sex, age, marital status, height, weight, arrest record, or physical or mental disabilities and works to secure the equal protection of such civil rights without discrimination.
 
These reappointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
 
Committee on Juvenile Justice
 
Archie H. Bailey, Ph.D. of Flushing, Genesee County commissioner, is appointed to represent local elected officials in general purpose local government for a term expiring March 15, 2012.  He succeeds Arthur Carter whose term has expired.
 
Timothy G. James of Benton Harbor, graduate of the State Police Michigan Youth Leadership Academy, is appointed to represent persons under the age of 24 who were formerly under the jurisdiction of the juvenile justice system for a term expiring March 15, 2012.  He succeeds Jamie Reed whose term has expired.
 
Richard L. Renner of Lake City, Missaukee County commissioner, is appointed to represent local elected officials in general purpose local government for a term expiring March 15, 2012.  He succeeds the late Carol Harton.
 
The Committee on Juvenile Justice was organized in 1974 as an independent state-level body to provide leadership and policy direction for administration of the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Act in Michigan.  The committee advises the Department of Human Services and the governor on matters relating to the juvenile justice system in this state and participates in the development and review of the federally required Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Plan.
 
These appointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
 
State Land Bank Fast Track Authority Board of Directors
 
Andrew E. Meisner of Ferndale, Oakland County treasurer, is appointed for a term expiring May 31, 2012.  He succeeds Daniel Kildee who has resigned.
 
Cynthia F. Reaves of Detroit, president and CEO of Jackson Gates & Associates consulting firm, is appointed for a term expiring May 31, 2010.  She succeeds Nicole Lamb-Hale who has resigned.
 
The State Land Bank Fast Track Authority Board of Directors has the jurisdiction and control of the Land Bank Fast Track Fund. 
 
These appointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
