Governor Granholm Announces Appointments, Reappointments

LANSING - Governor Jennifer Granholm today announced the following appointments and reappointments:
 
Michigan Early Childhood Investment Corporation (ECIC) Executive Committee
 
Hon. Louise Alderson of Lansing, judge of 54-A District Court, is appointed to represent a nominee of the Speaker of the House of Representatives for a term expiring December 31, 2012.  Judge Alderson is also appointed to the ECIC Corporation Board for a term expiring at the pleasure of the governor. 
 
Lewis V. Chamberlin III of Comstock Park, CEO and managing partner of the West Michigan Whitecaps, is appointed for a term expiring July 22, 2012.  He succeeds Hubert Price Jr. whose term has expired.  Mr. Chamberlin is also appointed to the ECIC Corporation Board for a term expiring at the pleasure of the governor. 
 
Kenneth B. Gutman of West Bloomfield, superintendent of Lake Orion Community Schools, is appointed to represent a nominee of the Senate Majority Leader for a term expiring December 31, 2012.  Mr. Gutman is also appointed to the ECIC Corporation Board for a term expiring at the pleasure of the governor. 
 
M. Olivia Lagina of Traverse City, a homemaker, is appointed to represent a nominee of the House Minority Leader for a term expiring December 31, 2012.  Ms. Lagina is also appointed to the ECIC Corporation Board for a term expiring at the pleasure of the governor. 
 
Doug R. Luciani of Traverse City, president and CEO of the Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce, is appointed for a term expiring July 22, 2012.  He succeeds Larry Schweinhart whose term has expired.  Mr. Luciani is also appointed to the ECIC Corporation Board for a term expiring at the pleasure of the governor. 
 
Anne Mervenne of Royal Oak, president and CEO of Mervenne & Company, is appointed for a term expiring July 22, 2012.  She succeeds Stephen Ewing who has resigned.  Ms. Mervenne is also appointed to the ECIC Corporation Board for a term expiring at the pleasure of the governor. 
 
Juan R. Olivarez, Ph.D. of Grand Rapids, president and CEO of the Kalamazoo Community Foundation, is appointed to represent a nominee of the Senate Minority Leader for a term expiring December 31, 2012.  Mr. Olivarez is also appointed to the ECIC Corporation Board for a term expiring at the pleasure of the governor.
 
Dan L. DeGrow of Port Huron, superintendent of the St. Clair County Intermediate School District, is reappointed for a term expiring July 22, 2013.
 
Deborah I. Dingell of Dearborn, vice-chair of the General Motors Foundation, is reappointed for a term expiring July 22, 2013.
 
David C. Hollister of Lansing, president and CEO of the Prima Civitas Foundation, is reappointed for a term expiring July 22, 2013.
 
Marianne Udow-Phillips of Ann Arbor, director of the Center for Health Care Quality and Transformation, is reappointed for a term expiring July 22, 2013.
 
The Michigan Early Childhood Investment Corporation (ECIC) is charged with establishing standards and guidelines for early childhood development activities to be implemented throughout the state in partnership with local intermediate school districts.
 
These appointments and reappointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
 
Michigan Judges Retirement Board
 
Hon. Alton T. Davis of Grayling, judge of the Court of Appeals for the Fourth Appellate District, is reappointed to represent active judges for a term expiring March 31, 2013.
 
The Michigan Judges Retirement Board oversees the judges retirement system administration and provides for a retirement system for members of the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, circuit courts, district courts and probate courts in Michigan.
 
This appointment is subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan Constitution of 1963.  The appointments stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.
 
State Tax Commission
 
Robert H. Naftaly of West Bloomfield, a Democrat, is reappointed for a term expiring September 13, 2015.
 
The State Tax Commission, a bipartisan entity, has general supervision of the administration of the Michigan's property tax laws, and renders assistance and gives advice to assessors as deemed necessary.  The State Tax Commission is also responsible for assessing certain state-assessed properties such as telephone companies and railroads.
 
This appointment is subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan Constitution of 1963.  The appointments stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.
