PARMA, Mich. – Lisa Wollet, a teacher at Parma Elementary School, Western School District, received news today of a $25,000 cash award – no strings attached – during a visit to the school from State Superintendent Tom Watkins as part of the Milken Family Foundation’s Educator Awards Program.
“Lisa Wollet is a great teacher. She makes a significant difference in the lives and futures of students,” Watkins said. “This marks the 15th year of recognizing excellence in education with the Milken Family Foundation. We are thrilled to acknowledge the dedication and vision that Ms. Wollet brings to her profession.”
Wollet is one of only 100 teachers nationwide this year to receive the Milken National Educator Award, dubbed the “Oscars of Teaching” by Teacher Magazine.
“By choosing to practice in the most noble and important profession, our nation’s talented educators make a lasting contribution to young people’s minds, imaginations, and characters.” said Milken Family Foundation chair and co-founder Lowell Milken. “We are proud to honor the outstanding work of teachers like Lisa Wollet, providing them with the recognition they so richly deserve.”
Wollet, a fifth grade teacher, holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Spring Arbor University and a master’s degree in Education from Spring Arbor. Wollet is seen as a change agent in the district. School officials say she is a strong leader and highly respected by her colleagues.
“Lisa Wollet is an excellent educator, one of many fine educators in the Western School District,” said Western School District Superintendent John Dardzinski. “She is inspiring, innovative, and technology-literate. Wollet’s students are achievers.”
